Would you like to work with children and young people?  Can you spare a few hours a week to help make a difference? Would you like to gain new qualifications and experience?  Why not become a volunteer?   We are currently looking for volunteers from all backgrounds with all types of experience.

Duty Manager

The duty manager is responsible for the day to day management of the leisure centre, the supervision of staff and health and safety.  We are looking for a real people person with excellent customer care skills, problem solving and time management skills.  The applicant must be able to work on their own initiative and as part of a team.


The lifeguard is responsible for supervising the swimming pools, cleaning and the setting up and dismantling of equipment.  Applicants must hold a current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and possess good communication skills.

Swimming Instructor

Swimming instructors are responsible for teaching the H2O Swim Life swimming lesson scheme to children and adults of all ages and abilities.  Applicants must hold a Level 2 Full Teachers qualification and current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.


Receptionists are responsible for taking payments and bookings and providing information to customers both in the centre and over the telephone.  Applicants must have excellent customer care skills, a good telephone manner and pleasant personality

Swim Coordinator

Purpose of Job / Key Objectives

  • To facilitate the swimming lessons programme on site and ensure effective running and continued growth of the programme.
  • To ensure the programme continues to develop and remains upto date with all industry trends.

Principal Duties

  • Ensure all customers have paid monies owing
  • To liaise with the assigned Swim England representative on a regular basis to discuss national and regional trends.
  • To attend regional and cluster meetings as required along with any required conference calls.
  • Supervision and administration of teachers
  • Regularly review the progress of each class 
  • Promote the swimming lesson programme in the community and on site
  • Ensure SLP information around the building is kept uo to date.
  • Ensure all relevant reports are up to date and communicated effectively.

Experience Level

  • Experienced at leading and organising a team.
  • Administration experience desirable

Essential Skills

  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Excellent planning and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and team working skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Job – Swimming Teachers

Contract Type – Part Time

We are looking for swimming teachers to join our teams at the Sovereign Centre and Motcombe Pool.

Essential Skills – Level 2 swimming teacher qualification or equivalent.  At least 6 months proven swimming teaching experience within a swim school background.  A current rescue Test Award for swimming teachers.  Have undertaken or be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS Criminal Records Check and Child Protection Training.

Desirable Skills – Knowledge of the national governing body professional swimming standards and the national plan/curriculum standards for teaching.

Full Time Lifeguard

Contract Type:  Full time (37 Hours a week)

Description: We are currently recruitinga full time lifeguard to supervise our busy swimming pools. The successful candidates will be fit, healthy, and available to work a variety of shift patterns. They will have undertaken or be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS Criminal Records Check and Child Protection Training.

Essential Skills: National Pool Lifeguard Qualification & high customer service standards. 

Desirable Skills: First Aid at Work qualified, experience in the leisure industry, have a good understanding of health and safety.


Group Exercise/Fitness Instructors

Contract Type: Part Time, Cover, Self-Employed

Description: We are currently recruiting part time and casual group exercise instructors to assist cover and maintain our extensive range of fitness classes here at The Sovereign Centre. We have over 50 classes a week, ranging from Circuits to Yoga and Aqua Aerobics (please see our class timetable on the website for the complete list of classes).

Essential Qualifications: Level 2 Exercise To Music or equivalent.

Desirable qualifications: Les Mills certified, Zumba certified, Pilates certified, Aqua certified.

Desirable Skills: Candidates ideally would be enthusiastic and team players and maybe have some experience already teaching in a group exercise role.
